Filing a Fictitious Business Name

A Fictitious Business Name Statement Application may be submitted online, in person at our kiosk, by mail or through your local newspaper.

Fictitious Business Name Statement forms are available online, at all office locations, and you may also request a form in writing.

Prior to filing, the manner in which the business is being conducted must be determined pursuant to B&P 17913(b),(4),(e),(f).

 

 

File in Person

To verify the name you intend to file is not already registered, click here to search the Registry of Fictitious Business Names or visit the County Clerk's office near you. We also urge you to search any other sources available to confirm the name is not already in use.

You must complete an application in order to file your Fictitious Business Name.  You may complete this application in our lobby, or begin the application at home.

NOTE: PERSONAL ATTENDANCE AND PAYMENT ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL FBN DOCUMENT TYPES SUBMITTED ONLINE

    The fee to register a Fictitious Business Name is $58.00 for the first business name and owner AND $2.00 for each additional business name at same address OR owner name.

    You may file a Fictitious Business Name Statement at any of the Riverside County Clerk locations.

Requirements for Affidavit of Identity
• Over the Counter: Business owners are required to fill out the top portion of the form and show a government issued identification in order to verify they are the authorized signer.

• Submission by Third Party: Any filings submitted by a Third Party/Agent/Courier will require a completed Affidavit of Identity form signed by the Registrant and acknowledged by a notary, as well as page 2 of the Affidavit of Identity form completed and an identification presented.

Payment may be by check or Money Order payable to the Riverside County Clerk.

This office CANNOT accept responsibility for any filing attempted by mail.

Requirements for Affidavit of Identity
• Submission by Mail: Business owners will be required to fill out the entire Affidavit of Identity form and have the bottom portion acknowledged by a notary and mailed in along with the complete FBN form and payment.

 

 

File by Newspaper

To save you a trip to the County Clerk's office, many newspapers in Riverside County will file your fictitious business name statement for you. Call your nearest adjudicated newspaper to find out if they offer this service. A listing of adjudicated newspapers serving Riverside County, including contact information, may be downloaded here.

Requirements for Affidavit of Identity

• Submission by Newspaper: Any filings submitted by a Third Party/Agent/Courier will require a completed Affidavit of Identity form signed by the Registrant and acknowledged by a notary, as well as page 2 of the Affidavit of Identity form completed and an identification presented.


If Filing as a Corporation, LLC or Limited Partnership
A registrant that is a corporation, limited liability company, or limited liability partnership, will require a completed Affidavit of Identity form signed by the Registrant and also must submit an original Certificate of Status issued by the Secretary of State certifying the current existence and good standing of that business entity. To obtain a current certificate of status from the California Secretary of State you may visit their website at   http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/.
