Documentary Transfer Tax / Exemption

The Riverside County Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder's Office is pursuing Documentary Transfer Tax on unrecorded documents when there is a change in ownership that involves real property within Riverside County.  Pursuant to Revenue and Taxation Code 64 (c) and (d), a change in ownership occurs when a corporation, partnership, limited liability company, other legal entity, or person obtains control through direct or indirect ownership; or control of more than 50 percent of voting stock; or obtains a majority interest in such entity.

To pay Documentary Transfer Tax on unrecorded transactions, please complete the Notice of Declared Documentary Transfer Tax Statement and mail it, along with a check, cashier's check, or money order made payable to Riverside County Recorder, at the address listed on the top of the form. If the transaction is exempt from Documentary Transfer Tax, please also complete the Documentary Transfer Tax Affidavit and submit it along with the Documentary Transfer Tax Statement.
